Year 10 - BLOG Reminder - Deadline Monday 16^th Feb

You have been working on your blog for the whole of this term. You should check back on your teacher’s blogs to ensure you have done all the homework that has been set. Below is a short reminder of the key things to include and the evaluation.

Sections that should appear on your blog:

Research on the play and the world of the play:

·         Where it is set

·         When it is set

·         What is happening in the world that might have influenced the writer to create the play?

·         How has the research helped your understanding of the play and your character?

·         Links to websites, pictures, articles.

Development on the character(s) and the themes of the play:

·         You should have on-going entries on the work that you have done in lessons.

·         Notes on how you have developed characters

·         Notes on how you developed themes

·         Notes on how you developed movement

·         Explain the decisions made in relation to the development and shaping of your character

·         Include YOUR SCRIPT – scan/photograph blocking choices/staging choices. Your script annotations should also have your character’s objectives; you might also have notes on the character’s thoughts/subtext. Your script might also have the character choices you made too. How lines were spoken etc…

Self-assessment sheets on your own rehearsal process (you were given a different sheet each week to complete and reflect on)

FINAL EVALUATION: This should be at between 500-750 words

Things to think about when writing your evaluation:

·         Review the style of the show

·         Ensemble

·         Physical theatre

·         Multiple roles

·         Storytelling

·         Minimal set or props, narrator

·         Changes of location

Think about structuring your evaluation with an introduction:

• What was the project?
• How was it performed?
• When and where was it performed?

The evaluation, questions to consider:

How did you DEVELOP ideas for THE PERFORMANCE?

• How did you use the PLAYSCRIPT to develop ideas - improvisation, small group work, whole group work, physical theatre etc.
• How did the work develop over the rehearsal process - think about the tasks set in lessons. Working altogether, creating individual moments.

What were the strengths of the final piece?

• What moments worked the best?

• What was your favourite moment and why?  How did this moment affect the audience? What did you want them to feel, do you think this was perceived by the audience? Why/why not?

• Write about a moment that another actor created. What was effective about their work and why? Think about the atmosphere created, characterisation, plot and the style of the work.

What were the weaknesses of the piece?

What weaknesses were there and how did we overcome these?

• Time restraints?
• Working as an ensemble?
• The staging?
• Learning lines?
• Character?
• Telling the story?

How did you manage your own technical skills?

·         Which acting skills have you developed and how?

·         What have you learnt about acting this term?

Reflect on your personal management skills:

·         Line learning

·         Focus in the class room

·         Rehearsing

Add a conclusion to your evaluation summing up the overall performance. Write about the skills you believe you have developed as an actor by participating in this project.

Unit 15 Performing Scripted Plays Rehearsal Self Observation

The session today was an opportunity to return to TALE 1 & 2. You needed to ensure that these were tighter and precise. 

Make some notes of what you need to do better within each tale.

• Character?
• Learning lines?
• Learning cues?
• Vocal awareness?

You then started working in two groups on Tale 6 & 7. 

Write some notes on the creative choices that were made.

Write about the work that you need to develop further.

Today we continued to work on the play tale, by tale. 

It is important that over the break you LEARN ALL OF YOUR LINES. Even those that we haven't blocked yet. The show is very detailed in moving the stools and lighting, by learning your lines you will make the rehearsal process much easier. 

For each tale, even though you are working as an ensemble you have a character within it. 

1. Go through your script tale by tale and work out the character that you are. Write about each character briefly.

For example in TALE 3 - are you all witnesses to what Jack does?

In Tale 4 - are you all the same character? The young person who notices the old lady and helps her? 

In both the prologue and tail 2 i don't have a character but in tail 3 I play the same lade back character as i did when performing the prologue.I spent most of the time slumped at the back of the stage and keeping my self to myself. Will and Lloyd played darts so i decided to act like i was keeping track of he scores for them.In tail 4 i am noticing te old lady fr the first time and going over to help her cross the street but in the super market i am just part of the isle of food.Then when i arrive home i am the young person again who has miserable thoughts on what it is like to be old and lonely.

2. Next, write out some of your lines from each tale and next to the line write your OBJECTIVE for saying the line. Think about why are you saying the line and this will help you with finding how you might say this.

3. Please go through your script and check you have all of your BLOCKING written down. You should have where you move to, who you stand/sit next to, when you light with a phone...etc.

Ensemble
The theatre ensemble in our piece is crucial to the success of the final performance. 
Write your own definition of what ensemble means in theatre.
An ensemble cast is made up of cast members in which the principal actors and performers are assigned roughly equal amounts of importance and screen time in a dramatic production.


Write about your favourite ensemble moment so far. Write at least 4 sentences to explain why.

Today we focused on creating Tale 3 and the start of Tale 4.
Write at least 4 sentences to answer each question:

• How have we decided to stage Tale 3? 
• What characters do you play in this tale? 
• What is the atmosphere of Tale 3? How is this different to what we have created for Tale 1 & 2?

TALE 4

• How have we decided to stage Tale 4? 
• What characters do you play in this tale?

• What acting skills have you continued to develop over the past few weeks? Is there anything new you have discovered about your own skills?
• Return to all of the sections of the text we have staged so far. Select a line from each that sums up that tale.

As well as keeping your blog up to date you need to:

LEARN ALL LINES that have already been given to you.

On Monday you will be given an edited script, you need to read this ready for the rehearsal on Thursday. I would like to finish blocking Tale 4 and 5. We will then run from the start. We then have 4 weeks after the Christmas break to complete the piece and polish it.
